Clarification of the Truth

Aug 13, 2024 by Shelley Halpern Evans

Today I want to share an important topic with my wonderful readers. But first— let me write how much I appreciate all of you and your precious time! Thank-you for being here.

Clarification of the Truth

For my friends who know me well and for those who are taking the time to become acquainted, the number one on my value list is truth-telling. Sometimes folks prefer a softer, more subtle approach and I admit, I don’t always come across as ‘sweet’. But truth matters. Have you ever said or done something that another understood as different from what you intended? I know that has happened to me more than once and I do try to clarify the truth. I don’t want to live with the thought: I lied.

On this note, I have to clarify a fact for all of you. In my initial email to my friends, I wrote that I developed my website ‘in anticipation of publishing my novels Deleted Arm and The Ace.’ I am so blessed to have received fantastic response to this announcement. But to my surprise, some followers wrote back messages of congratulations on being published and asked me where they could find my newly-printed books. That was so gratifying.

With sincere apologies, I was not clear in my initial message. I had been advised by a literary agent in N.Y. (Lucinda Halpern who wrote Get Signed), to develop a website as soon as possible. Apparently, prospective publishers check out an author’s website before pursuing any other investigation. Fortunately for me, I was able to speak with Lucinda about ways I can enhance the pursuit of my dreams—thus the newly-minted website.

So dear Friends. Please allow me to clarify the truth—I am working diligently to finalize my second novel and then to obtain a publishing deal for both. It’s a tough road. I will keep you all up to date as events unfold.

Meanwhile here are a few questions to consider: do so-called white lies count as full-on lying? What is more important — saving a friend’s feelings or being honest with that person? I would love to hear from you!
