Happy Place

Dec 05, 2024 by Shelley Halpern Evans

As the holiday season approaches and everyone is busy with festivities, I am thinking about tranquility. About the moments of gazing into space — staring at a bright blue sky or white-foamed waves. Or sitting by a picture window on a blustery day, with a hot cup of cocoa, and watching leaves swirl in eddies. Sometimes I see palm tree fronds dancing in the sea breeze and I feel a connection with my palm sisters…how we love to dance in flower-scented tropical air.

Some folks treasure the idea of waking up to a powdery dusting of Christmas morning snow on rooftops. Others find exhilaration in the speed of a freshly groomed ski hill. My happy place is wearing one light layer of clothing and never feeling the chill of cold air. My happy place is reading in the shade of a large umbrella in the noon heat, or catching the fragrance of open night blooms outside my front door.

Granted, sometimes solitary life has its moments of excessive introspection. But what a gift to have time to ponder, far from the “madding crowd,” with the joy of creative energy seeking space, liberated from social expectation. Where is your happy place? How often do you make it a priority? What feeds your soul?

Thank-you for following me. I wish you all beautiful family time and a healthy and joyful 2025. I love hearing from you. Make time for joy!

All the best,
Shelley
