Island Life

Island Life

They say island time, island life. Everything slower, calmer, cleaner, brighter. Away from it all. The air is different — those theories about the cleansing benefit of negative ions feel real here, not merely magical stories to challenge science. It doesn’t matter though, reality is forests, towering trees, birdsong.

Yet, despite the surround of serenity, I’m writing. Writing the most difficult, damning project I’ve encountered. My being vibrates with longing to type The End. I force myself to be with the next word, then the next, head down in the grappling. Hoping this written voice will finally ring in the way it resonates so vividly in my mind.

Relaxing summer, nature in glory. I admonish myself to stop, lift head, breath the fresh, gaze around. For this plumage of greenery will soon be rimed in crystal white, the season of profusion dormant again. Yet—the energy of summer’s fullness presses and invisible hand between my shoulder blades, propels me forward, onward through despair.

What moves you? What props you up through all seasons? Is it love, family, a healthy soup or stew? Summer, light and breezy, maybe a time to shore up emotional resources for dark days, a plan to combat loneliness or estrangement.

My sincere wish for all my readers is to find peace and tranquility in your happy place, with a good book.

Have a beautiful summer!
